About Matt Bromley
Matt Bromley is an experienced school and college leader, and an education writer and consultant. He is currently Director of Education for the Derby College Group and the DCET multi-academy trust. He is also a governor at a secondary school. Matt writes on education for various publications including The Guardian, Headteacher Update, TES Further Education, and Autus Education News. He writes a monthly column for SecEd magazine where he is also a member of the editorial board. Before assuming his current role, Matt worked with Autus Education as an education consultant and as a consultant headteacher and teacher-trainer with a number of other companies including Creative Education, CPD for Teachers, and The School INSET Company. He was also a GCSE and A Level examiner.
In a leadership career spanning more than fifteen years, Matt has been the Principal of a Studio School and the acting Headteacher of the highest performing comprehensive school in its authority and one of the top five most improved schools in England. He has been the Deputy Headteacher of a small rural school (with responsibility for curriculum and timetable, self-evaluation and school improvement, and health and safety and the site), and the Assistant Headteacher of a large inner-city school (with responsibility for, amongst other areas, teaching and learning, and the achievement of pupils).
He has worked at senior levels in both the public and private sectors and, prior to teaching, he was a senior manager in the telecoms industry although he began his working life in journalism. He has an Honours degree in English Language and Literature, a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education and the National Professional Qualification for Headship as well as several professional qualifications.
He is the author of several books for teachers – all published by Autus Books – including the Amazon best-sellers ‘How to Become a School Leader’, ‘Leadership for Learning’, ‘Ofsted Thriving Not Surviving’, and ‘The IQ Myth‘. He edited the Amazon best-seller ‘SPaG Book: A Teacher’s Guide to Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar’. His latest book is Teach, which, like all his books, is available in paperback and in various ebook formats from www.booksforschool.eu.
